Fallout: First Look Images At Prime Video's Live-Action Adaptation Of The Video Game Franchise

We are less than six months out from the debut of Fallout on Amazon's Prime Video streaming service. The new series, from Westworld co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy--is a live-action adaptation of the wildly popular Bethesda video game franchise set on a post-nuclear-war America. In the games, the player-character typically emerges from a subterranean vault into the devastated wasteland on a journey that introduces them to a wide array of characters--and the TV series looks no different.

Set in California over 200 years after nuclear war broke out in 2077, Fallout is led by Ella Purnell as Lucy, a girl who grew up in one of the famed vaults, but is now making her way into the outside world for the first time. A series of images from the show have been released by Prime Video, providing quite a bit of place-setting for this new take on Fallout.

Not only do we see glimpses of Lucy's life in the vault, but some of the characters she will encounter on her journey. Most notably, we see Walton Goggins (Justified) as a ghoul--those who didn't have the comfort of a vault to keep them from being exposed to radiation from the fallout. Also on display are elements of the Brotherhood of Steel, the technology-obsessed paramilitary group, known most often for the iconic suits of power armor they wear.

Take a look at all of the images Prime Video has provided below. Fallout premieres April 12 on Amazon Prime Video.

Clearly, this is set before Lucy exists the vault. It remains to be seen whether she is the Overseer's daughter in the series, but given the friendly look they're sharing, that seems possible. What we do know is that the series is set after all of the currently released games, meaning Lucy will be the most recent person that we know of emerging from a vault.

Here is Lucy exiting the vault she's called home her entire life.

The new series is set in California, a setting we've yet to explore in the Fallout games. Still, this particular settlement Lucy is arriving to gives off Megaton vibes, for those that remember the early location in Fallout 3.

    The Brotherhood of Steel's airship

In Fallout 4, we discovered the Prydwen, the massive airship used by the Brotherhood of Steel. Chances are, this is not that game ship. However, it's clearly inspired by it.

We also see the Brotherhood of Steel suited up in their iconic power armor from the games. Getting your hands on a suit of power armor is always a good thing in the games, as it protects you from a lot of what the wasteland has to offer.

    Walton Goggins as The Ghoul

    Walton Goggins as The Ghoul

We meet many ghouls--those that have lived their lives above ground, exposed to radiation--throughout the Fallout games. It remains to be seen if Goggins' character will have a proper name or just be known as The Ghoul. Whatever the case, he looks practically perfect.

This is where things get interesting. A Maximus does exist in the Fallout games. A character named Maximus figures into 2001's Fallout Tactics. However, that game is set 100 years before the TV show takes place. So, while they aren't the same person, our best bet is one inspired the other. Interestingly, Maximus in the games if a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, which also seems to be the case in the show.

Here we see Purnell posing with executive producer Jonathan Nolan, just a couple people in the wasteland.

We get one last look at Goggins' as The Ghoul, emphasizing the gunslinger style the character seems to have.
